On Thursday, Mr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), stated that the priority for the apex pharmaceutical regulatory body is to reduce the regulatory interventions in the system and make the system simpler.

During his lecture at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) on the occasion of National Technology Day, he revealed that at present, there are multiple permissions and interventions in the system that can be simplified to make the system easier.

He added that for the last couple of years, his priorities have been to reduce regulatory intervention in the system. He revealed that another priority was to improve the subject expert committee (SEC). He noted that organizations like IICT can help bring new specialists into the SEC domain. He also added that the regulatory body is working towards increasing its footprint in the digital space.

Lastly, when asked about the measures taken to address the issue of cough syrups manufactured by some Indian companies facing problems over quality in foreign countries, he revealed that several measures have been taken to deal with the issue. He stated that one of the steps was to make interventions in the supply chain for the raw material, which can be held responsible for such standards.
